Pump Tracks in Scotland

Pump tracks and BMX tracks across Scotland, from village parks and school grounds to a world championship BMX track in Glasgow, area by area from the Central Belt to the Borders, Aberdeenshire and the Highlands.

About this guide

A pump track is a loop of rollers and berms (raised, banked corners) that you ride by pumping your body up and down rather than pedalling. Get the timing right and you can lap without a single pedal stroke. Most of the tracks in this guide are asphalt, free to ride and open to scooters, skateboards and balance bikes as well as bikes, and most of them were built by Velosolutions, so a card names the builder only when it is someone else. Many Velosolutions tracks have Vorld lap timing, which lets you time your laps on your phone and see how you rank.

We have included BMX tracks too, because riders use both and the riding overlaps. Scotland's race tracks run from the UCI-standard Glasgow BMX Centre to club tracks in Cumbernauld, Clydebank and Newton Stewart. Each card says which kind of track it is, and flags the few that are paid, on school grounds or run by a club.

The guide starts in Glasgow and the west, moves east through the Lothians, Central Scotland and Fife, then goes south to the Borders and Dumfries and Galloway before finishing in Aberdeenshire and the Highlands. Heading south? See pump tracks in the North West for Cumbria, or pump tracks in Yorkshire and the North East for Northumberland. Crossing to Northern Ireland? See pump tracks in Northern Ireland. For what to ride, what to wear, track etiquette and the other regions, see our guide to pump tracks in the UK.
