Description
The Lecht 2090 sits at the top of the pass between Tomintoul and Strathdon in the Cairngorms National Park, 2,090 feet (640m) above sea level, and is one of Scotland's five ski centres. For summer 2026 its mountain bike trails are open again after several seasons closed, rebuilt and rebranded around a bird theme: a green Lapwing Loop for families and beginners, the blue Curlew Cruise for riders aged 12 and over, plus a pump track and a skills park, with two red descents (Peregrine Plunge and Buzzard Bomb) having their final touches added. Uplift is by the EasyLoop, billed as the UK's first system of its kind. There is no bike hire on site, so bring your own bike and a helmet, with a full-face recommended for the gravity trails. The centre runs year-round, operating as a snowsports resort in winter.

The Trails
- Lapwing Loop (green): an easy, family-friendly trail with gentle gradients, wide flowing corners and smooth surfaces, built to introduce beginners and younger children to mountain biking.
- Curlew Cruise (blue, 12 years and over): flowing intermediate singletrack for riders with some off-road experience, with easy jumps and rollers, bomb holes, bermed corners, optional feature lines and passing places. Note that the EasyLoop uplift serving this trail needs a wheel of at least 20 inches, so the smallest kids' bikes cannot use it. (Delete this note once the Lecht confirms.)
- Peregrine Plunge (red): a technical red descent having its final touches added, with narrow singletrack, steeper terrain, berms, drop-offs and tabletops for experienced riders.
- Buzzard Bomb (red): an advanced red trail nearing completion, fast and flowing with technical features.
- Pump track and skills park: newer additions for working on jumps, drops, cornering and balance, open to all abilities.
Uplift
- Uplift is by the EasyLoop, which the Lecht describes as the first system of its kind in the UK. It replaces the ski chairlift for bike uplift.
- Uplift day tickets are booked online through the Lecht's booking system. There is no bike hire on site.
Opening
- The bike trails run in the summer months, currently open Wednesday to Sunday and closed Monday and Tuesday. Days and season can change, so check the Lecht's website or social channels before setting off.
Beyond the Trails
The Lecht 2090 is a year-round activity centre. In winter it runs as a snowsports resort with a network of ski lifts, tows and a magic carpet serving beginner to advanced runs. The day lodge holds a cafe, bar, ticket office, shop, ski hire and toilets under one roof, and is available for private functions.
