Description

Lecht 2090 is a multi-activity centre situated in the Cairngorms National Park at the top of the pass between Tomintoul and Strathdon. Based 2090 feet (645m) above sea level, it is Scotland's 3rd largest ski centre and offers two mountain bike downhill trails, a red and a blue and a skills park in the summer months. The MTB trails have been closed for the last few seasons and, as of 2025, were still shut; however, the venue has confirmed plans to reopen the downhill trails in Summer 2026, with hints of further new developments still to be announced. Please note that there is no bike hire on site—riders must bring their own bikes. Helmets are required, and full-face helmets are recommended.

The Red Fox Trail

  • A red-graded descent of 1,600m with dirt jumps, bomb holes, berms, and riding features built from rock.

The Blue Hare Trail

  • A blue-graded descent of 1,900m with easy jumps, bomb holes, bermed corners, avoidance lanes, and passing places -- making it a good option for less confident riders building their skills.
  • The first sections of both the Red Fox and Blue Hare are combined at the top of the hill, with extra width and options of feature difficulty to suit different abilities.

Skills Park

  • A skills park launched in 2026. Open to all grades of rider.

Pump Track

  • A pump track opened in Summer 2026

New Uplift system

  • For 2026, the chairlift is not being used for uplift, and instead they have a brand-new system for taking riders up the hill - the first in the UK! More details to follow.

Future Plans

Planning was approved in 2026for a new downhill trail

More Than Just Mountain Biking

Lecht 2090 is a year-round activity centre. In winter it operates as a snowsports venue with 12 lifts including a three-person chairlift and magic carpet, serving runs for beginners through to advanced skiers and snowboarders. The day lodge houses a cafe, bar, ticket office, shop, ski hire, and toilets all under one roof. The building is also available for private functions and events.

  • Skiing and snowboarding -- winter season typically runs December through to April, with a ski school, on-site equipment hire, and snowmaking facilities.
  • Walking and hiking -- the surrounding Eastern Cairngorms offer hill and moorland routes with exceptional views directly from the centre.
  • Cafe and bar -- the day lodge cafe serves hot meals and drinks year-round when the centre is open.

The Lecht is easily reached from Aberdeen, Aviemore, and Speyside. Find out more at lecht.co.uk.
