Description
Hawick Pump Track sits in Wilton Lodge Park in Hawick, in the Scottish Borders. Velosolutions built two floodlit asphalt tracks here, a big main loop and a smaller beginner loop, and both are free to ride.
The Track
The main loop is a large, flowing asphalt circuit with berms, rollers and transfer lines, laid out for speed and flow. Beside it, a smaller beginner loop has gentler features, which suits first-timers, younger riders and coaching sessions. Together the two loops run to about 430 metres, and the track is on the Vorld app, so you can have your laps timed and ranked.
The track was built on the site of old tennis courts and came from the Hawick Community Pumptrack Group, a volunteer group that was awarded the King's Award for Voluntary Services for its work. You can follow them on Facebook.
Also in the Park
Wilton Lodge Park is a large riverside park with the Pavilion Cafe, a walled garden, an adventure play park and a museum, so there is plenty for the rest of the group while you ride. The council says the toilets are open during cafe hours.
Getting Here
The track is in Wilton Lodge Park on Wilton Lodge Road (TD9 7LG), a short walk from Hawick town centre. The Common Haugh car park in the park is free, and there is street parking on Wilton Lodge Road. Follow the signs for Wilton Lodge Park and the track is in the park grounds.
