Trail Details
The track design allows riders to generate momentum through pumping rather than pedalling, making it accessible for beginners and engaging for more experienced users. Multiple line options encourage skill progression and playful riding — how many different routes can you spot?
The surface is all-weather asphalt, making it suitable year-round. The track supports bikes, scooters, skateboards, and other wheeled users.
Environmental Considerations
Built on a floodplain, the project team worked closely with hydrologists during planning to ensure the track wouldn’t disrupt the natural flow of floodwater. It held up successfully through a real-world flood test during the winter — remaining intact and rideable after heavy rainfall.
Community and Access
This was a grassroots initiative led by Stow Community Trust, backed by funding from Sport Scotland, EDF Renewables Longpark Wind Farm Community Fund, SSE Toddleburn, and Scottish Borders Council. It forms part of a wider drive to improve local cycling facilities and promote active lifestyles in rural areas.
