Pump Tracks in Wales

Pump tracks and BMX tracks across Wales, from village playing fields and town parks to national-standard race tracks, area by area from the north coast to the Valleys and Cardiff.

About this guide

A pump track is a loop of rollers and berms (banked turns) that you ride by pumping your body up and down rather than pedalling. Get the timing right and you can lap without a single pedal stroke. Most of the tracks in this guide are on village recreation grounds and in town parks, free to ride and open to scooters, skateboards and balance bikes as well as bikes.

We have included BMX tracks too, because riders use both and the riding overlaps. Wales has some serious race tracks, from the National BMX Centre in Cardiff to club tracks in Maesteg, Rhyl and the Nantlle Valley, and most welcome newcomers at their open sessions. Each card says which kind of track it is, and flags the few that are paid, run by a club or ridden in booked sessions.

The guide starts in North Wales and works west to east, then goes through Mid and West Wales before finishing in South Wales. Heading over the border? See pump tracks in the North West for Cheshire and Merseyside, pump tracks in the West Midlands for Shropshire and Herefordshire, or pump tracks in Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire for Bristol and the Forest of Dean. For what to ride, what to wear, track etiquette and the other regions, see our guide to pump tracks in the UK.
