Description
Talysarn BMX Track is a community-owned BMX race track in the old slate-quarry village of Talysarn, in the Nantlle Valley below Snowdonia's hills. Clark and Kent built it in 2015 using the same sections as the London 2012 Olympic track, with berms paved in charcoal blocks to match the slate.
The Track
- A full BMX race track with a start hill, straights of rhythm sections and berms paved in charcoal block paving, the first of its kind in the UK, chosen to blend in with the slate quarries around it. It was fitted with the original start gate from the London 2012 Olympics, and opened in August 2015.
- The community group Cruisers Talysarn led the project, with funding from Gwynedd charities, Snowdonia National Park, the Welsh Government and North Wales Police among others.
- Ten years on it is showing its age, with moss on the berms and wear on the straights. Renovation work started in spring 2025, and the local councillor is forming a committee with the aim of starting a cycling club here. If you ride it, please let us know how it is riding.
The Skate Park
- Cruisers Talysarn also runs the skate park on the same site, Gwynedd's only community-owned skate park, open since 2001.
Getting Here
- Station Road, Talysarn, Caernarfon, LL54 6HL, beside the B4418 in the centre of the village. Park on Bryncelyn Road, about 100 metres from the track.
