Description

Cae Hywel Pump Track, also known as the Bumps and Jumps Pump Track, is a free asphalt pump track on Cae Hywel playing field in upper Denbigh. Local young people campaigned for it and helped design it, JB Extreme Landscapes built it, and it opened in October 2025 for bikes, scooters, skateboards and wheelchair users.

The Track

  • Asphalt lanes of rollers with yellow-edged berms and painted direction arrows. There are two routes, a progression route for newer riders and an intermediate route, each with its own start.
  • The sign at the track says it was designed for BMX, mountain bikes, skates, skateboards and even balance bikes.
  • The rules: ride in one direction only, stay on the track and don't cut corners, and don't build or change anything. Helmets must be worn at all times, pads and gloves are recommended, and bikes need working brakes.

How It Came About

  • A group of young people from upper Denbigh, aged 13 to 17, who called themselves Bumps and Jumps, campaigned for a track so they would not have to travel to ride. Denbighshire Council funded the build through its Open Space Commuted Sum grants, working with Grŵp Cynefin's HWB Dinbych, Actif North Wales, Denbigh Town Council and the county's youth service.
  • JB Extreme Landscapes started building in September 2025, and Gill German MP opened it on 24 October 2025. Denbighshire Housing looks after it.

Getting Here

  • Cae Hywel playing field, upper Denbigh. The track runs along the edge of the field beside Lloyd Avenue, near the play area and benches. For problems, contact Denbighshire County Council on 01824 706000.
