Description
Maindy Pump Track is a free asphalt pump track at the Maindy Centre in Cardiff, beside the city's historic outdoor velodrome. Better runs it as an open-access track for learners and experienced riders alike, with no booking.
The Track
- A loop of asphalt roller lanes joined by berms at each end. It was rebuilt in 2019 with new drainage, an asphalt surface and reprofiled runs, funded by a Welsh Government capital grant through Sport Wales.
- It is open during the centre's opening hours and free to use, with no booking. Better sets the rules: ride within your ability, helmets and cycling gloves must be worn at all times, and so must knee, shin and elbow pads. Skateboards and scooters are not allowed.
- If you want to race, Cardiff BMX Racing Club's full-size track is at the National BMX Centre Wales.
Also at the Centre
- The Maindy outdoor cycle track, built for the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games, is right next door. It is home to Maindy Flyers, the club where Geraint Thomas started, and you can book pay-as-you-go sessions at reception.
- The Maindy Centre itself has an indoor pool.
