Les Gets Bike Park

Les Gets Bike Park is set in the French Alps, one of the resorts making up the Portes du Soleil, the largest joined-up mountain bike area in Europe. The park itself now runs to around 128km of marked trails across two sectors, Chavannes and Mont Chery, graded from green through to an elite pro-line tier, with a dedicated 4X track, a Jump Park, a Coaching Track and two pump tracks. A lift pass also opens up the wider Portes du Soleil network shared with Morzine, Chatel and the rest of the region. It is a genuinely big destination and the trails can get busy in peak weeks.

The Trails

The bike park splits across two distinct sectors. The Chavannes side carries the flowing, shaped trails and the park's dedicated feature zones: the Jump Park, a three-hectare zone of wooden modules and shaped dirt jumps for progression riding, sits at the heart of the sector alongside the Four Cross (4X) track and the Coaching Track, a blue-graded run built for technique practice. The Shore, a flowing blue descent past Lac du Plan du Rocher, and the black-graded Freeride du Canyon and In the Gas complete the Chavannes line-up, alongside the red Vion-Net, La Dejantee and L'Encape, and further blue runs including Tomawak, L'Arpette and La Roue Libre.

Mont Chery is the more technical of the two sectors, running through natural roots, steps and steeper forest sections rather than machine-built features. At the top of the grading scale sit Ellipse Line and Airlines, a pro-line tier above black for riders comfortable with big jumps and drops.

Two pump tracks give riders somewhere to session without a lift pass: Pump Track du Lac, an asphalt loop beside Lac des Ecoles with its own dedicated kids' area, and the wooden Village Pump Track in the heart of the resort. A green trail, The Squirrels, and a liaison trail linking Les Gets to Morzine cover the easier end of the grading scale. Grades run Green, Blue, Red and Black, with a further pro-line tier for the hardest jump trails.

Gravel Riding

Beyond the lift-served trails, Les Gets has a dedicated gravel offering: forest roads, high mountain pasture tracks and quiet backroads across the Chavannes plateau and around Mont Chery, with views to Mont Blanc throughout. Routes are less formally waymarked than the bike park trails, so download a route or use GPS navigation before you set off. Local bike shops rent gravel and e-gravel bikes if you would rather not bring your own.

Admission and Lift Pass Pricing

The pump tracks and any trail that does not need a lift are free to ride. Uplift on the bike park's own lifts is pay per ride or by multi-ride card: a single trip costs 9.30 euros for an adult, 7.00 euros for a child aged 5 to 15, and 7.90 euros for 16 to 25 year olds and over 65s, with a 6-ride card at 27.50 euros or a 12-ride card at 49.00 euros, both valid for 18 months. A full Portes du Soleil summer lift pass, covering the wider regional network, costs from 38 euros a day online for an adult, 194 euros for 6 days or 438 euros for the season, with reduced child, youth and senior rates. Prices are correct as of September 2026 but subject to change, so check current rates on the Les Gets bike park website before you book.

Guides, Shuttles and Hire

The lifts are the uplift here: SAGETS, the resort's lift company, runs the Chavannes Express and Nauchets Express chairlifts and the Mont Chery gondola for bikes, so you don't need a van shuttle for the bike park itself. Lessons, guided rides and hire are all based in the village, most of them within a few minutes' walk of the Chavannes lift, and several of the guiding businesses use their own vans to reach natural trails and other bike parks in the area. Among others:

• Bike Academy: a mountain bike school running downhill, enduro and e-bike lessons for children and adults with MCF-certified instructors, plus bike hire, based in the Intersport shop at the foot of the lifts on Route du Front de Neige.
• Bike Experience: a team of instructors, guides and mechanics offering lessons in the bike park and on natural trails, and guided gravel, enduro, downhill and e-bike days using its own 9-seat van and bike trailer, based at Delavay Sport on Rue du Centre.
• Les Gets Bike School: an MCF mountain bike school offering group and private lessons, guided rides and multi-day courses in downhill, enduro and e-bike, based on Route du Front de Neige in the village centre.
• Season Guiding: local guides offering mountain bike, e-bike and gravel guiding from half a day to a week across the Portes du Soleil, plus summer riding camps for children and teenagers in the Les Gets bike park.
• Yolo Store: mountain bike, e-bike, road and leisure bike hire for adults and children, with a workshop and bike storage, on Rue du Centre about 80m from the Chavannes lifts.

The tourist office keeps a fuller list of mountain bike schools and guides and bike hire shops in the village. Some of these operators publish little online, so contact them before you travel to check they're running.

Getting There from the UK

Geneva is the nearest airport, around 65km away, and the transfer to Les Gets takes roughly an hour to an hour and a quarter by road. Geneva has by far the widest choice of flights from the UK, and shared and private transfers to the resort run from the airport all summer. Lyon Saint-Exupery is the alternative, at around two and a half hours by road.

By rail, take the Eurostar to Paris or Lille and a high-speed train towards Geneva or Annemasse, then regional trains, including the Leman Express, to Cluses, the nearest station, around 22km below the resort. Buses run from beside Cluses station up to Les Gets, and there is a second route via Thonon-les-Bains. Bikes need planning on the high-speed legs, where space is limited or the bike must be bagged, so reserve a space or pack your bike before you travel, and check whether the bus up to the resort will carry it. Regional trains take bikes, space permitting.

Driving from Calais or the Channel Tunnel is around 900km, roughly nine hours on toll motorways via Reims and Dijon towards Geneva, leaving the A40 at Cluses for the climb up to Les Gets. Having a car makes it easy to bring your own bikes and kit, and to reach the other bike parks in the Portes du Soleil and the wider Haute-Savoie.

Once in Les Gets, the main access point is the Chavannes underground car park, beneath the Chavannes chairlift at the foot of the slopes in the centre of the village, on Route du Front de Neige, 74260 Les Gets. It is open 24 hours and pay on exit. Village-centre parking is also available closer to the Mont Chery gondola for that sector. The village itself is small enough to get around on foot or by bike.

When to Go

The bike park opens on the Chavannes side for a run of pre-season weekends from late May, then runs daily from mid or late June until mid-September. The Mont Chery sector keeps a shorter season, usually closing at the end of August, so riders who want the technical side should come in July or August. Lift hours are a little longer in the high season from early July to the end of August.

The resort is at its busiest during the French school summer holidays, from early July to the end of August, and especially around the 14 July and 15 August public holidays. Les Gets regularly hosts a UCI Mountain Bike World Cup round in late summer, which brings big crowds and closes parts of Mont Chery for several days, and the Pass'Portes du Soleil ride fills the trails across the region for a weekend each summer, so check the event calendar before you book. Late June and the first half of September are usually the quieter weeks for lift queues and trails.

The village sits at around 1,170m and the top of Mont Chery at over 1,800m, so it can be cool and windy up high even on a hot day in the valley, and conditions can change quickly. Summer thunderstorms tend to build through the afternoon and can close the lifts temporarily, so start early, carry a waterproof layer and check the forecast each morning.

Where to Stay

Les Gets village is the natural base: the Chavannes Express, the Mont Chery gondola, the pump tracks, the bike schools and the hire shops are all in or next to the centre, so you can ride from your door on most days. Les Gets and Morzine are linked by trail and lift, so staying in either works for riding both, and from Morzine the lifts lead on towards Avoriaz, Chatel and the Swiss side of the Portes du Soleil at Champery and Les Crosets.

Accommodation runs from catered and self-catered chalets, many of them set up for riders with bike storage and wash areas, to hotels and apartment residences. Many local accommodation providers include or discount the Portes du Soleil Multi Pass, which covers the lifts as a foot passenger and more than 70 activities across the region, such as swimming pools and the lake, which suits non-riding family members, but it does not replace a bike lift pass.

Local Organisation and Events

• The Pass'Portes du Soleil is an annual mass-participation event taking in venues across the wider Portes du Soleil region.
• Les Gets hosts rounds of the UCI Mountain Bike World Series, including World Cup finals, which can affect lift and trail access on event dates.
