Description
Snibston Colliery Park MTB Trails is a 4 km blue-graded, one-way singletrack loop around the old colliery spoil heap at Snibston Colliery Park in Coalville, Leicestershire, with a skills area and a tarmac pump track for younger riders. Leicestershire County Council runs the park, which is free to enter and sits in the heart of the National Forest.
The Trail
- A 4 km blue trail of jumps, bumps and berms, built as one-way singletrack on and around the original colliery spoil heap and through the woodland that now covers it.
- Expect small root and rock obstacles. Most gradients are moderate, with some short steep sections. Follow the blue icons and arrows.
- Blue suits intermediate riders, or mountain bikers with basic off-road skills, on a mountain bike or a hybrid. There is no bike hire, so bring your own.
- The trails are for bikes only: no walking on them, and no motorbikes, e-motocross or e-motorbikes on the trail, the skills area or the pump track.
Skills Area and Pump Track
- The skills area has jumps, uneven terrain and boardwalks, so newer riders can build confidence before taking on the trail.
- The pump track sits next to the play area. It is a small tarmac circuit of rollers and banked turns for beginner and intermediate riders, designed for balance bikes, scooters and pedal bikes, and ridden in one direction.
- The council's code of conduct asks pump track riders to wear a helmet and gloves, with long sleeves and trousers or elbow and knee pads. Children must be supervised.
Also in the Park
- The Snibston Heritage Trail, past the colliery's historic buildings and machinery, and Irish elk sculptures by local artist Sally Matthews.
- The Grange Nature Reserve, with a Victorian arboretum, wetland boardwalk, wildflower meadow and two fishing lakes (day tickets on site).
- A play area, the Colliery Cafe and toilets. The Century Theatre is next door.
