Bardon Hill MTB Trails
Bardon Hill MTB Trails is a volunteer-built downhill network on the wooded, quarry-edge slopes of Bardon Hill, the highest point in Leicestershire, near Coalville. Riders will find 5 or 6 downhill runs graded blue to black diamond, each ending with a push back to the top rather than a lift or shuttle. It is widely regarded as the county's main dedicated downhill riding, kept going by local volunteers.
The Trails
- 5 or 6 downhill runs graded blue, red and black diamond
- Natural, fast terrain with some techy, twisty sections, built and maintained by local riders rather than machine-shaped jump lines
- No uplift: every run finishes with a push or pedal back to the top
- Trails are informal rather than officially waymarked, so download a route or use GPS navigation before you set off
Local Organisation
The trails are looked after by the volunteer-run Bardon Trail Association, who post trail conditions, work days and updates on Facebook and Instagram.
Getting Here
Bardon Hill rises just east of Coalville town centre, alongside the Bardon Hill quarry. There is no official car park for the trails: riders typically approach from residential streets in Bardon or Coalville and reach the hill on foot or by bike via the public footpaths that cross it. Access here is informal and shared with walkers, so park considerately, stay on the established lines, and be mindful of other hill users.
