Description
Poldice Valley, also known as Poldice Quarry or the Mars trails, is the unofficial heart of Cornish mountain biking. Set in a lunar mining landscape near St Day, it packs a myriad of community-dug tracks into a small area: an ever-changing dirt-jump zone (the Mars trails) plus a spread of downhill lines studded with big gaps, kickers, doubles and drops. The hardest lines ride black, though nothing here is waymarked, so pick your way in and session with locals. Expect roughly a dozen evolving tracks, from rollable dirt jumps to committing DH. It sits within about five miles of both The Track Portreath and Falmouth Bike Park, so a Cornwall trip can easily string all three together.

The Trails
- The Mars dirt jumps: a constantly reshaped dirt-jump area, everything from rollable table-tops to bigger gap lines. Always changing, so it rewards repeat visits.
- Downhill tracks: a cluster of steep, hand-built DH lines with gaps, kickers, doubles and drops. The steepest ride black; softer options exist alongside.
- Ground is hard-packed mining spoil that drains well, so the valley rides year-round better than most Cornish dirt.
Getting Here
Park at the Poldice Valley car park off Poldice Lane, St Day (nearest postcode TR16 5JE). There is also a roadside parking area just to the south of the valley. From either, the trails are a short pedal or push into the valley floor.
