Description
MaxTrax Pump Track is a floodlit asphalt pump track in Delamere Park, Openshaw, Manchester, built by Velosolutions in memory of a local boy, Max Rimmer-Chambers. It is a flowing loop of berms and swoops for bikes, scooters and skates, free to ride, and suits beginners and experienced riders alike.
The Track
- A loop of about 130 metres of asphalt, built by Velosolutions, with raised berms, swooping turns and grassed mounds in the middle of the loop. Floodlights light the track for evening riding.
- You build speed by pumping through the shapes rather than pedalling, so it rewards smooth technique on bikes, balance bikes, scooters and skates, and the same loop works for a first lap and for riders working on flow and cornering.
- Velosolutions lists the track for its Vorld app, which times laps and ranks riders by age group and discipline.
- A separate learn-to-ride area for young children sits beside the BeeHive community hub next to the track.
Also in the Park
The track sits next to the BeeHive, the community hub run by MaxTrax, which has a kiosk and a cycle repair workshop. MaxTrax also runs coaching and learn-to-ride sessions; some are booked in advance through its website, and only registered riders can use the track during those booked sessions. The park also has a children's playground.
Getting Here
Delamere Park is in Openshaw, east Manchester, postcode M11 1JY, and the track is in the middle of the park beside the BeeHive and the playground, reached by the park's surfaced paths. The track is run by the community group MaxTrax.
