Description

Basingstoke Pump Track is a 143 metre asphalt loop in War Memorial Park, tucked behind the tennis centre beside the park's concrete skate park. It was built by Velosolutions for the borough council to replace the park's old BMX track, and it is free to use. Bikes, scooters and skateboards all share it, and the Vorld lap timing system lets you log your laps and times.

The Track

  • Asphalt pump track, 143 metres long, built by Velosolutions UK on a high-grip asphalt mix.
  • Multiple line options, with double berms, S berm sections, rollers of varying heights and spacing, and deep bowls. The berms are high and steep, so take the first laps steadily.
  • Designed with BMX riding in mind, and open to bikes, scooters and skateboards. The council describes it as designed for all ages and abilities.
  • Fitted with Vorld lap timing: scan the QR code at the track to set up an account, and a gate in the track records your laps and adds them to local and global leaderboards through the Vorld app.
  • It is free to use, with no booking.

The Skate Park

  • A concrete skate park sits right beside the pump track, and a shared rest area with skateable asphalt embankments links the two.
  • Many skaters use the pump track as well, so expect a mix of wheels and share the lines.

Also in the Park

  • A parkour course, street fitness equipment and an outdoor gym near the skate park and tennis centre, aimed at teenagers and adults.
  • Tennis centre (no membership needed) and sports pitches next to the track.
  • An all-weather play area with a scooter track for younger children.
  • Toilets, including an accessible toilet, in the John Arlott Pavilion, and two independent cafes in the park.

Getting Here

  • War Memorial Park, Crossborough Hill, Basingstoke RG21 4AG.
  • Free parking, including disabled bays, on site off Crossborough Hill. The track is behind the tennis centre, a short walk across the park.
  • On foot, the park has entrances from Hackwood Road and London Road, and subways from the Hackwood Road roundabout and Parkside Road. There is a bus stop on Hackwood Road.
