Description
Laggan Wolftrax is a trail centre in Strathmashie Forest, near Laggan in the Scottish Highlands, with 11 waymarked trails: two greens, four short blue sections, four reds and a black, plus an orange bike park and a skills area. It is known for narrow, rock-armoured, natural-feeling trails and technical slabs, but there is plenty for every rider, and the centre has a cafe, toilets, showers and a bike shop with hire.
Green
- Wolf Cub Green, 3.5km: fairly wide, with a shallow climb and a singletrack return, made for children and riders starting out and a good warm-up for everyone else. In 2025 it was widened and resurfaced along its full length, with new drainage, so it suits a wider range of adaptive bikes. The work was done by Forestry and Land Scotland and the Laggan Forest Trust with Cairngorms National Park Authority and Highlands and Islands Enterprise, with input from adaptive rider Dave Bower. - Gorstean, 2km (4km return): a wide, low-level, surfaced gravel trail to the community-owned Gorstean car park.
Blue
- Give and Take, 0.85km: a smooth, winding climb with optional rock sections and views across the glen, upgraded in 2025 for a wider range of adaptive bikes. It tops out at The Lair, a viewpoint built from a rock feature, where you can rest and choose your way down.
- Slaba-Dabba-Doo, 0.5km: a fast descent with berms and rollable rock features. From higher up, Bamm Bamm is a short red-graded lead-in.
- The Pict, 0.33km: the smooth, fast lower section of Slaba-Dabba-Doo, joined partway up Give and Take, so it makes a short lap for younger riders.
- Blaeberry Flapjack, 0.4km: a descent back to the centre with mellow jumps and swooping corners, and a good confidence builder before the upper blue and the reds.
Red
- Alpha Red, 3.8km: a fast route with technical features and rock slab descents, after a challenging climb.
- Howlin' Wolf, 0.8km: fast and fun, with sweeping berms and occasional jumps.
- Leapin' Wolf, 0.7km: the next step up from Howlin' Wolf, with more frequent tabletops, all of which can be rolled.
- Rib Rattler and Spare Rib, 2.5km: fast, narrow and technical, with built and optional features. Spare Rib mixes Laggan rock with big berms, and Air's Rock, a black-graded slab, can be bypassed.
Black
- Wolf of Badenoch, 3.9km: demanding, technical singletrack for expert riders, with drop-offs, stone staircases, boulder fields and rock slabs. Features include the 2 Ton Drop, the Back, Sack and Crack Attack (a triple rock slab) and the Devil's Chessboard, a 40-metre rock slab staircase with 24 levels.
The Bike Park - Orange
- 3.6km of orange-graded trail on a wide sealed surface with big berms, tabletops and gap jumps. Everything can be rolled, and it is built for progression from novice to advanced riders.
Skills Area
- The skills area is just opposite the cafe and centre.
At the Centre
- The Wolftrax Cafe and the bike shop are run by the community-run Laggan Forest Trust. You can book bike hire online.
- The cafe runs reduced hours over the winter, so check Laggan Wolftrax on Facebook before a winter visit.
- There are toilets, coin-operated showers and pay and display parking.

- The trailhead is just off the A86 Spean Bridge road, approximately one mile west of Laggan village, signposted on the left.
