Description

The Dalbeattie mountain bike trails are in Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland and are part of the 7stanes network. At Dalbeattie, there are three trails. A red with black sections a blue and green.

In 2023 the Dalbeattie Community Initiative announced their Rocks and Wheels project will benefit the Levelling up fund by creating an outdoor activity centre with indoor bouldering, 60-bed hostel, outdoor pump track, training and community rooms, and outdoor civic space. Being at the entrance to Dalbeattie Town Wood will allow easy access to the 7stanes mountain bike trail.

Dalbeattie is infamous for its rock and granite slabs. It isn't famous for its height but it is more than testing to ride the stone.

Ironnhash Green Trail

  • 11.5km of predominately easy forest road riding with a little singletrack to give a taste to mountain biking.

Moyle Hill Blue Trail

  • 14km with more climbing. It steps it up a gear and gives a good introduction to the Dalbeattie rock.

Hardrock Red Trail (with Black sections)

  • 25km Rougher and rockier surface for technical riding. Over 65% singletrack. The granite is all-weather and of course, ensures the trail has endearing resilience to erosion. Holds well in the wet. Classic singletrack with gnarly short rock descents and numerous slabs to ride. Black sections are known throughout the MTB community as "The Slab" with its steep angle, the Terrible Twins" and the "Volunteer ridge"

Heart Stane Trails

Second visit to the trails. Introduced my 8 year old son to the red. More biking than pushing this time and he challenged himself to ride more of the harder rock sections.

What do you like?

Taster loop and skills bits Toilets/good for changing Bike wash...just a tap but great. Rocky technical challenge Cafe, next to car park Lots of options to lengthen or shorten the ride. Board walk uphill sections.

What could be improved?

Skills area a bit cut up. Odd opening times of cafe.

Would you recommend?

*Yes*

First trip to the stanes

We had an amazing time staying I the area and being able to ride to the trails from our campsite (glamping) and the local pubs we went to were brilliant for food in the evenings. This was a great place to go ride and stay, first of the Severn done now and we will be back for more.

What do you like?

Amazing location, we stopped here on the way back down south. The whole area is stunning and agreed place to visit. The trails are easy to find and offer something for everyone. The climbing is pretty easy and mainly fire roads

What could be improved?

The blue is short and easy, there was a big step up to the red for my girlfriend compared to the riding in fort William. There is more riding on fire roads than you would expect. The cafe in the car park was always closed.

Would you recommend?

*Yes*
