Lochore Meadows' new Harran Hill trails open

Three new mountain bike trails on Harran Hill at Lochore Meadows in Fife open to ride from 31 October: a blue climb, a red descent and a blue flow descent.

Lochore Meadows Country Park announced the opening on Facebook on 30 October. They are the extension Velosolutions UK has been building this year, part of the £400,000 project we reported on when it was approved.

The three trails

  • Wullie's Way (blue climb): a zig-zag climb with a smooth surface and steady gradients that leads to the top of Ride It Like Rab. It is named after local farmer Willie Stevenson, for his long support of the park and the local community.
  • Ride It Like Rab (red): a technical descent with big berms and tabletops that can be rolled or jumped, and a B line round the last technical section at the bottom.
  • Rig and Furrow (blue): a long, progressive flow descent of berms and rollers, with more technical options along the way. Its name comes from the area's mining and farming heritage.

The red trail is named in honour of Rab Wardell, the Dunfermline-born rider who raced for Scotland at the 2006 Commonwealth Games and won national titles across his career. He was a regular at Lochore Meadows when the Scottish Cross Country Series came to the park. He died in 2022, aged 37. A silhouette of Rab racing is on the new trail signs.

Riding them

The park asks riders to take care on a first visit: the surfaces are still bedding in, so get to know the lines and features before building speed. The new trails are for bikes only, and signs direct walkers to a separate path.

There is more to come. Over the coming weeks the park plans further work on the existing trail network, and resurfacing on the Avenue and Harran Hill to make them easier going for walkers and cyclists. An official opening celebration is also planned.

For the rest of the trails at the park, from the green loop round Loch Ore to White Wood Bikepark, see our Lochore Meadows and White Wood Bikepark listing, or the park's cycling page.
