Description

YMCA Newark and Sherwood Bike Tracks is a traffic-free cycling area at the YMCA Community and Activity Village in Newark, Nottinghamshire, with a Learn to Ride area, a stone-to-dust community trail and two asphalt pump tracks. It opened in October 2023, and riding is in booked open bike sessions run by YMCA Newark and Sherwood.

The Tracks

  • Learn to Ride: a progressive track for first rides, from balance bikes upwards.
  • Community Trail: a stone-to-dust mountain bike trail with beginner and intermediate features, including jumps of different sizes.
  • Progressive pump track: low, smooth asphalt features for riders of all ages.
  • Advanced pump track: an asphalt jump line with a range of jumpable features.
  • Which track suits you depends more on ability than age.
  • Officially opened in October 2023 by Veronica Pickering, His Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire. It was funded by the Tarmac Landfill Communities Fund, Sport England, British Cycling's Places to Ride programme and Newark and Sherwood District Council.

Sessions and Prices

  • Open bike sessions are booked online, by phone or in person. A non-member session is 7 pounds for adults and 4 pounds for under 18s. Supporter members pay less, villager members ride free, and under 5s ride free with a paying adult.
  • Helmets are compulsory (you can borrow one), and bikes must have working brakes, inflated tyres and capped handlebar ends. E-bikes, tandems, scooters and skateboards are not allowed on the tracks.
  • Under 11s must be supervised by a parent or guardian, and every rider signs a waiver.
  • Sessions run later in the evenings from April to October, and stop at 4pm from November to March.
  • Prices and times are correct as of October 2026 but subject to change, so check current rates on the YMCA website before you book.
