Description
The Shanaze Reade BMX Track is a floodlit, national standard BMX race track in TipKinder Park, Crewe, named after the Olympic BMX racer who grew up racing here. It is home to Cheshire Ghost Riders BMX Club and still hosts regional races.
The Track
- The first track here was built in the 1980s. The club, the borough council and Groundwork Cheshire designed its replacement, which Horticon built from late 2006 with a concrete and gabion start ramp, jumps and new floodlights, making it one of the first floodlit national standard tracks in the UK.
- The track is about 300 metres long, with hard-packed straights of rollers between berms.
The Club
- Cheshire Ghost Riders BMX Club runs sessions on weekday evenings and at weekends. Check the club's Facebook page for current times.
- Wear a certified helmet, with a full-face helmet for the start gate. Bikes need at least one working brake and no stunt pegs.
The Skate Park
- The Platform One concrete skate park, opened in 2006, is right next to the track.
