🥇 Trail of the Year – Winner Announced!
Very tame. If you are looking for an XC trail for fitness the red trail combined with the blue gives you about an hour and 20 mins of cardio at a reasonable pace. There are literally no tech, steeps or ‘features’ on these trails so don’t waste your time if that is what you are looking for. The “dh” trails are short, not steep, and no tech. There are some dirt jumps which can be fun for the kids.
The red trail is more like a blue/green and is not to be confused with a red mountain bike trail.
Good for maintaining cardio between wales trips to bike parks/trail centres.

Pines is a great centrally located venue - but it lacks challenge. Compared to Cannock where there’s big drops, jumps, wood features and gap jumps. It seems driven by health and safety. It needs a skills park with drops (downhill section would be a good area)
More drops and more wood features

My local trail centre (though not so local)
has good trails but due to the volume of visitors the trails get torn up easily and can get very crowded on a weekend.
distance and variety are average but they are trying to make the most of the space they have and are often seen fixing and adding new sections.
Has grown well as a trail centre over the years but would benefit from more harder short sections off the red route.
often see families running the red route which in reality is more of a solid blue trail given that 95% of the red is rollable without need for any skill. This doesn’t help keep large groups on the right trails causing a lot of ‘traffic’.
The facilities have grown to suit the need of the centre and good that they show interest in keeping things fresh and vibrant for all visitors.
The hard work that goes in to such a busy centre.
Thw attempt to create more extensions to Current trails.
Sing Ange for walkers crossing with cyclists! Some DH sections run straight into walkers which is dangerous!!
trails better maintained and more seperation for families and akilled riders.

The trails at pines will give you a good session of cardio and fun. If you want downhill and technical, go to BPW. It keeps me fit and gets me out of the house. The trails are also well maintained.

I live next door to these trails and have ridden them and watched them change a lot over the years.
Pines was one of if not the first places that had trails for riding your bike off road...it wasn't the first MTB specific centre...and it was and still is very Cross Country oriented. This is because it simply doesn't have the elevation to provide a lot of gravity based fun, but it does a good job with the elevation it has.
The blue graded trail has a few fast bermy sections, though they are short and over way too soon you can still link them with the more engaging sections of the red graded trails to create your own quite fun and flowing route.
As it's pretty flat...expect about 600ft of ascents/descent overall...you do have to pedal a lot, which is very different from a lot of centres, so it's great to build fitness.
There's also a reasonable amount of accessible off piste riding, it's not overly technical but it adds to the mix and can add a few grinds.
It's a good place to grow and develop your skills whilst not being daunting, then you can head out to the more technical and gravity centres to push your skills and experience different types of MTB riding.
yes
Blue is well flowy. Red had loads of work done recently so has some mint sections now.
Best jumps in the area. No one can say pines is boring unless you've cleared the big line.
Jumps, flowy trails
None. Why complain about riding your bike. Always fun no matter what.
