Description

Sandwell Valley Country Park in West Bromwich holds two purpose-built mountain bike areas from the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games legacy: Hill Top Bike Park, a green, blue, red and black jump and berm course on the old Hill Top golf course, and the Miner's Trail, a 3km woodland loop with its own blue, red and black sections on a former colliery site in Jubilee Woods. There's also a pump track on site, plus two longer, mostly off-road leisure rides, Tour de Sandwell and the Sandwell Safari, linking green spaces and canal towpaths around the wider valley.

The Trails

  • Hill Top Bike Park (Swan Pool MTB Trails): built into the old Hill Top Golf Course, with graded blue, red and black lines full of jumps, berms and technical features, plus a green flow loop for beginners.
  • The Miner's Trail: a 3km woodland loop in Jubilee Woods on a former colliery site, with blue, red and black taster sections woven through flowing singletrack, table-top jumps, high-banked berms, short climbs, switchbacks and a few rocky sections.
  • Pump Track: a separate pump track elsewhere in Sandwell Valley Country Park.

Signage on site has been patchy through 2026 and some sections of the network have suffered from encroaching vegetation, so allow extra time to find the trailhead and don't expect every line to be freshly cut back.

Gravel Riding

  • Tour de Sandwell: a 51km loop that's predominately off-road, following green spaces and canal towpaths around the valley. Starts and finishes at Forge Mill Farm. Route map.
  • Sandwell Safari: a longer 67km version of the same idea, also starting and finishing at Forge Mill Farm. Route map.

Getting Here

  • Park at Swan Pool car park, off Park Lane, West Bromwich (B71 3SZ). Note the height restriction on the car park barrier. Cross Park Lane on your bike and head into Jubilee Woods for the Miner's Trail, or follow round for Hill Top Bike Park.
  • Toilets, bike hire and the wider Sandwell Valley Visitor Centre are at a separate site on Salters Lane (B71 4BG), a short drive from the trails rather than right at the trailhead.
