Description
Queen's Park BMX Bike Track is a BMX track in Queen's Park, Heywood, also known locally as Heywood BMX Track. Rochdale Borough Council restored it in 2024 and BMX professional Ross Cullen officially reopened it on 18 January 2025. It is home to Roch Valley Raiders BMX Racing Club.
The Track
- The track closed in 2022 because its loose stone surface had become unsafe and overgrown. A 100,000 pound restoration by BikeTrack rebuilt it, and the four main raised banks were asphalted, so you now ride hard-packed straights and rollers between asphalt berms, with a start hill at the top.
- Local charity Restoring Hope put 13,000 pounds towards the work alongside council funding.
The Club
- Roch Valley Raiders BMX Racing Club rides here, for riders of all ages and abilities, with sessions that include gate practice. Check the club's Facebook group for current session times.
Also in the Park
- Queen's Park has a bandstand, two playgrounds including one for toddlers, a tennis court, a crown green bowling green and pavilion, a lake and an outdoor gym.
- The Queen's Park Cafe is open daily, and there are accessible toilets at the Lodge House and the cafe.
