Description
Burgess Park BMX Track is Southwark Council's national-standard BMX race track in Peckham, built by Clark and Kent Contractors with three three-metre berms, a 70-metre pro straight, a start gate and floodlights. It is home to Peckham BMX, and every rider needs track accreditation before riding.
The Track
The track hosts regional racing, including the South BMX Regional Series. Its three berms are each three metres high, and the 70-metre pro straight is for advanced riders in advanced sessions only. Only BMX and mountain bikes are allowed, each with a working rear brake, and everyone rides one way round.
Every rider needs track accreditation first, an assessment for riders aged 8 and over run by the council.
Sessions
Southwark Council runs the track as The BMX Track London. Its free Rock up and Ride sessions run through the week with no booking needed, and it offers bookable coaching for balance bikes and juniors through to beginner, novice and intermediate riders, school holiday clubs, women-only sessions and gate practice. Equipment hire is included if you need it. Check the council's schedule for times.
Peckham BMX, the club based at the track, runs sessions for novice, intermediate and expert riders on Wednesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings, all booked through RiderHQ. Club sessions cost £8 for members and £10 for non-members, and the track is floodlit into the evening.
