Description
Pateley Bridge BMX Track is the bike track on the Millennium Green, the community green beside the River Nidd on the north side of Pateley Bridge in Nidderdale. It is a hard-packed gravel loop of rollers, with more than one line through it, laid out on the grass along a dry-stone wall under a belt of trees. It is free to ride and looked after by Pateley Bridge Town Council.
The Track
- A loop of pale, hard-packed gravel tread on the grass, with rollers to pump through and lines that split and rejoin.
- Locally it is called the BMX track, but it is a gravel pump loop rather than a BMX race track, which is why it is listed as a pump track.
- Town council staff inspect and look after the track as part of their upkeep of the green.
In 2026 North Yorkshire Council granted planning permission to replace the gravel track with an asphalt pump track on the same spot: a clockwise circuit of about 110 to 120 metres, with berms and rollers, gentler lines for beginners and tabletops for more experienced riders, for bikes, scooters and skateboards. Local resident Will Askew proposed it to the town council in 2023, and it has been developed with North Yorkshire Sport, with funding from the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority, Sport England's Movement Fund and the town council.
Also on the Green
- The Millennium Green was created in 1999 under the national Millennium Greens scheme, and the town council has been its sole managing trustee since 2010.
- Woodland, a wildlife pond and a children's garden.
