Healey Nab is a Good trail and is where I started with an XC bike (Kona king Kikapu), Then now I ride mainly Downhill but also ride all other kinds......Nab developed my skills well and now im tearing through trails. But be prepared unless you have a car because me and my mates ride up and its very hard and takes energy so pack well. And you've got distance from the closest bike shop.
What do you like?
-Builds up Important skills from Cornering to more Technical challenges
-Good exercise
-Nice View
-A chance to Throw your opinions to the production of Nab
-Hospital isn't to far away (If you should need it)
-Everyone Is Nice and happy to help each other
-No matter the weather Nab is really fun
-Maintained by a Group called I Dig Healey Nab (https://www.facebook.com/groups/IDigHealeyNab/)
What could be improved?
-Hard to get to
-No Facilities. (So take field tools etc.)
-There are occasional problems with Motocross bikes and Chavs (But People tend to intervene)
-The push up is quite annoying and takes abit more energy than what you'd hope for
-If you take a bigger bike like a Downhill bike be ready for a hard journey to ride/walk..unless you have a car or live very close
OK Folks,
A review of the red route for XC and enduro riders. Really good red loop, do it quick and you will get under 7 minutes. If you race XC or enduro hit the Nab at full gas and I will assure you it will be stunning, superb training to get your skills sharpened and your fitness high. Some people have said that its not technical enough (more technical than any regional XC MTB races), tell you what, go round the loop at full gas and tell me you did not have at least one moment, its tech as %$*& at warp factor!!
I'm at a fairly good level of fitness and skills ability, doing 6 laps or more of the red route non stop is a proper work out in all aspects, the last third of the loop is a climb, defo gets the lungs and legs feeling the burn. It holds up well with the weather and I ride it regular on a training loop to pop into the the nab to do a lap or two. Not a full days dedicated riding to be had but great to pop in and do a few laps. If your into XC racing, get yourself down and do 8-10 laps non stop, easily equivalent to a regional XC race. Love the Nab. Try it at night, double amazing.
I came to this trail centre on the train, and even if I had come on roads it seems a bit in the middle of nowhere. With trails designed by Rowan Sorrell I was expecting something a bit more special. After a half hour slog up a track to get to the forest, I found my self at the top of the centre and stuck mainly to the black route. It was ok, with a few separate lines but in reality a bit short and only entertained me for a couple of hours sessioning before I headed off again quite disappointed. I've heard there is plenty of good riding around if you want to link it into a longer XC route though
What do you like?
-probably nice if you're in the area to get out for a couple of hours.
-some big-ish jumps if that's your thing
-lots of good riding locally
What could be improved?
-Miles away from anywhere
-No facilities, just a collection of trails
-Not nearly enough for a day's ride
