Healey Nab Mountain Bike Tracks

Healey Nab is a small mountain bike site on a wooded hill between Chorley and Anglezarke reservoir in Lancashire, rebuilt from scratch in 2024 and 2025 after disease-felling wiped out the original trails. Lancashire County Council owns the hill, and the volunteer I Dig Healey Nab group keeps it running alongside professional trail builders. There are four red trails, a black downhill and a blue link route back to the top, all packed into a compact hillside visible from the M61.

The Trails

  • Red Climb (Red): Leads from the access path up to the trailhead, with switchbacks and some technical rocky, rooty sections.
  • Red Downhill (Red): A fast, flowing descent with berms, rock gardens, drops and jumps. All the features are rollable or can be avoided.
  • Black Downhill (Black): Tight berms, jumps and drops, with two alternative sections to mix things up.
  • Red Return (Red): Runs through the lower woods with a mix of climbing and descending, including the collapsed wall rock garden.
  • Rear Red (Red): A gentler red at the back of the site, earmarked for further development.
  • Push/Ride Up (Blue): A quick, rideable route back up to the trailhead.

The current trails were rebuilt through 2024 and 2025 by Dirt Factory Trail Services, working with Lancashire County Council and the I Dig Healey Nab volunteer group, reopening in April 2025 after several years of decline. The site is under continuous development, with monthly dig days maintaining existing lines and building new ones.

Getting Here

  • The trailhead sits in woodland visible from the M61 near Botany Bay, between White Coppice and Chorley, reached via a short access path off Heapey Fold Lane.
  • Roadside parking is available near the trailhead; an alternative car park can be found at White Coppice.
