Description

Eastbourne Pump Track is a large asphalt and limestone pump track in Hampden Park, off Hampden Park Drive in Eastbourne, East Sussex. Built by Clark and Kent Contractors for the council, it is a 60 by 40 metre loop of seven straights and six berms, with several route choices through the middle so you can vary your speed and rhythm. It sits beside the park's concrete skate park, and the park has a cafe and toilets.

The Track

The layout is a sequence of rollers, straights and berms, with different lines through the centre so you can link features in more than one way. The six berms and the start area are asphalt, and the rest of the track has a limestone surface, which Clark and Kent chose for a smooth ride in all weathers. They also fitted an extensive drainage scheme, because the site had a history of standing water.

The design brief asked for a track that works for every level of rider, from beginners to experienced riders, and it is open to anyone on wheels, mainly cyclists but also scooter users.

The Skate Park

Right next to the track is Hampden Park Skatepark, a concrete park with a bowl and street features, so it is easy to combine a session on both.

Also in the Park

Hampden Park is a free public park with a lakeside cafe, toilets, a children's playground, tennis courts, bowls clubs and sports pitches.

Getting Here

Use BN22 9QR for sat nav and head for Hampden Park Drive. There is free parking on Hampden Park Drive and the surrounding roads, and a car park by the cafe. From there it is a short walk along the path through the park, past the tennis courts, to the track and skate park at the eastern end.
