Description
Burley In Wharfedale Pump Track is a pair of asphalt pump tracks built by Velosolutions on Burley Recreation Ground: a 190 metre main track of berms, S-corners and transfer lines, and a 55 metre balance track for balance bikes, scooters and wheelchair users. It is free to ride and open to riders of all ages on bikes, scooters and skateboards.
The Track
Both tracks were built in asphalt by Velosolutions, so they ride well in all weather. The main track has adjacent 180 degree berms, swooping back-to-back S-corners and transfer lines, with bigger rollers and steeper berms than the smaller track, and it suits bikes, scooters and skateboards. The 55 metre balance track alongside has shallow rollers and wide berms, designed for balance bikes, scooters and wheelchair users, and it makes a gentle first go for young children and beginners. The main track is on Velosolutions' Vorld app, which times your laps.
Also on the Recreation Ground
The tracks sit at the back of the recreation ground, which Burley Parish Council manages and which is open all year. The ground also has football pitches, home to Burley Trojans Football Club, and a basketball court. The pump track project was led by Burley in Wharfedale Community Trust, a volunteer-run charity, which raised the funds with support from the parish council and local partners.
Getting Here
The tracks are at Burley Recreation Ground, York Road, Burley in Wharfedale, LS29 7DP, on the edge of the village. Burley in Wharfedale station is on the Wharfedale line between Leeds, Bradford and Ilkley, and the village has bus stops close to the recreation ground, so you can arrive by train or bus with a bike or scooter.
