Description
Battle Pump Track is an asphalt pump track on the lower tier of Battle Recreation Ground in East Sussex, built by Clark and Kent Contractors for Battle Town Council. It forms part of a cycle skills area where cyclists, rollerbladers and scooter users can build skills away from traffic and pedestrians, with simple loops for younger riders and a more advanced section for experienced ones.
The Track
The track is built from connected loops of rollers and berms. Shorter, easier loops suit younger riders and anyone new to pump tracks, while a more advanced section has bigger turns and a more technical rhythm for riders who want a challenge. Clark and Kent Contractors designed and built it in the winter of 2019 and 2020, shaping the track around the tree roots on the site and fitting an extensive drainage scheme to deal with the lower tier's unusual ground.
It is part of the Battle Health Pathway, a project to improve access to the recreation ground for people of all ages, so you will often share the space with walkers, runners and scooter users.

Battle Recreation Ground, on North Trade Road, also has a large playground with a castle-themed play area, tennis courts and a kiosk that is usually open for refreshments on sunny days. There is an accessible toilet, and a bicycle parking area by the main entrance.
Getting Here
Head for Battle Recreation Ground on North Trade Road, where car parking is available for recreation ground users, and follow the paths down to the lower tier towards Asten Fields (TN33 0HP). The pump track and cycle skills area are in the open space on the lower tier.
