Description

Aston Hill Bike Park is located in the Chiltern Hills, on the Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire border. The site has been officially closed since winter 2020 following extensive ash dieback affecting the local tree population.

Bike Park Chilterns CIC is leading the redevelopment and long-term stewardship of the site. In 2025, a rebuild partnership was announced with Saracen, Shimano and Madison to support the reopening and phased redevelopment of the bike park.

Reopening target: March 2026, with an initial phase of two brand-new, professionally built downhill trails.

The initial trail offer is planned to include a progressive flow trail aimed at intermediate riders, and a higher-speed, more technical downhill line designed to challenge experienced riders, with steeper features, line choice, and use of natural terrain.

A third downhill line, with a race-focused design, is mentioned as part of the early pipeline, subject to funding and build scheduling. These trails are entirely new builds and form the first phase of a longer-term development programme, with a wider goal of developing at least seven trails over the coming years.

Historically, Aston Hill featured five graded downhill runs, a 4X track, a challenging cross-country loop of around five miles, and a pump track. Downhill riding typically involved multiple runs per day with an uplift-free push or walk of approximately 20 minutes per lap.

If you ride Aston Hill once it reopens, you can share a short review, photos, or videos to help keep this listing up to date.

Pretty Damn Awesome

What do you like?

Super quick technical downhill trails. Gets the adrenaline pumping, especially Surface to Air. Really enjoyed every trip I've made and it can only make you a better rider.

What could be improved?

1 toilet and a proper long walk to the top. Worth it every time though.

Fantastic technical DH - rare in the south

Sign-posted from the main roads, to get there from the train station you need to pedal hard. It all pays back on full speed, technical, bermy, rooty DH runs. Very well maintained with one of the more difficult XC loops you could ride- 5miles of going on roots and rather advanced 4X.

What do you like?

S2A - alpine class ride!!! DH3 and Red runs - great for building confidence. XC loop excellent for learning how to pedal up the roots and control your bike. Great workout as well.

What could be improved?

No cafe, showers, 4x not very progressive (you either jump over all of them carrying high speed or you you end up rolling over everything - not much fun for not very advanced 4xers)

Would you recommend?

*Yes*

Small site packed with fun

Aston hill is fantastically supported by CTC and the Forestry Commission, it just shows what can be built when everyone involved works together.

What do you like?

Fantastic variety of DH trails. The work put in to keep Aston Hill fresh over the past couple of years is amazing. Surface to Air all weather trail is brilliant.

What could be improved?

The push up is the only bad aspect. 4X seems neglected compared to the DH trails. The chalky ground gets slick in the wet.

Would you recommend?

The 4x track is great fun

What do you like?

The 4x track isn't used enough but it is worth seeking out. I is among some of the most funi I have ever had on a bike. The jumps are all rollable and it is full of Berms. It is a very steep hill so is quite hard to ride back up the hill.

What could be improved?

It is a very steep hill which means when it rains it can get very sketchy.. There ill beans shallower warm up track. These tracks are for the experienced rider.

Would you recommend?

*Yes*
