Description

Lisburn BMX Club runs the only national standard BMX track in Northern Ireland, in Bells Lane Park, Lisburn, with a Velosolutions pump track alongside it. The asphalt race track has a start hill and gate, berms and timed laps, and non-members can book pay-as-you-go sessions on either track once they have done an induction and hold a valid Cycling Ireland or UCI-affiliated licence.

The Tracks

  • BMX race track: a national grade asphalt circuit rebuilt by the club's volunteers with Alpha Programme funding and open since 2016. It has a start hill with a ProStart gate, berms and straights, and Mylaps timing for start, straight and lap times. The club uses it for coaching, training and race meetings.
  • Pump track: a Velosolutions asphalt pump track of over 143 metres beside the BMX track, with a double berm, three 180 berms and two long straights. It takes bikes only (BMX, mountain bike, jump bike), is booked separately from the BMX track, and is aimed at intermediate and advanced riders.

Booking and Access

The park is council-run and free to enter, but both tracks are ridden in Lisburn BMX Club sessions, booked online and run by volunteers, so slots change from week to week. Members book through the club's members portal. Non-members book on the pay-as-you-go page, where the current price is shown.

  • Riders new to the track book a free induction first, held on Sunday mornings.
  • A valid Cycling Ireland or UCI-affiliated federation licence is needed for insurance. Anyone without one books an induction.
  • Riders need a full face helmet, full-length clothing and gloves, and the club strongly recommends body armour. On the pump track, elbow and knee pads are required, only flat pedals are allowed and riders go anti-clockwise.
  • Riders under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
  • The club's Intro2BMX programme offers coached sessions for children under 16 who are new to the sport, with bikes and kit available.
  • Annual membership is £130 for a single rider, with family options from £180, and covers all open sessions.

Getting Here

  • Park in the free council car park on Bells Lane, off Lambeg Road in Lisburn (BT27 4QJ), beside Aberdelghy Golf Course. The lane to the tracks is to the right of the car park.
