Description

Barnett Demesne sits on the outskirts of South Belfast, a short cycle from the city centre along the Lagan Towpath. The network includes a 3.4km green trail, a 3.9km blue trail with three red add-on sections (approx. 1.5km in total), and Ireland's first purpose-built jumps park with six progressive lines. It is the first urban trail centre and dirt jump park in Northern Ireland.

The Trails

  • Green Trail (3.4km): A shared-use linear route following the River Lagan from the trailhead to Shaw's Bridge. Wide with gentle inclines, ideal for families and first-time riders. Accessible from both the Mary Peters Track and Shaw's Bridge car parks.
  • Blue Trail (3.9km) with Red options: Flowing singletrack with berms, tight corners and rhythm sections. Three optional red sections (approx. 1.5km total) add North Shore, log rides, rock gardens and drops for riders wanting more.
  • Jump Track: Six progressive lines of tabletops, doubles and hip jumps graded using the Orange dot system. Ireland's first official purpose-built jumps park.

Getting Here

  • Primary car park: Mary Peters Track, Old Coach Lane, Belfast, BT9 5PR. From the House of Sport roundabout, take the B103 Upper Malone Road towards Finaghy. After approximately one mile, turn left down Old Coach Lane and continue for 100 metres. The Mary Peters Track entrance is on the right; the trailhead is beside the upper car park.
  • Car park hours: Monday to Thursday 9:30 am to 9 pm, Friday 9:30 am to 5 pm, Saturday and Sunday 10 am to 5 pm.
  • By bike: accessible from the Lagan Towpath, part of National Cycle Network Route 9. The green trail can also be picked up at Shaw's Bridge Car Park.
  • By bus: Metro routes 8A-C from Belfast city centre.
