Warwickshire: Pooley trail building restarts after two years

Pooley Park Mountain Bike Club says trail building is moving back into action at Pooley Country Park in Warwickshire, with the first volunteer trail crew sessions in two years now planned as work restarts on the site.

The riding here includes three short downhill tracks and a skills area, making it a compact local spot that has relied heavily on community effort and volunteer support.

Pooley’s trails and skills area had been maintained by volunteers for more than six years before the previous agreement was terminated in 2024, putting the site’s future in doubt. A council-commissioned survey followed in early 2025, and the latest updates now mark the clearest step yet from assessment back into on-the-ground trail work, with the skills area set to be the first focus.

Earlier this month, the club said it had signed a new agreement with Warwickshire County Council to restart building and maintaining the trails. It has now followed that up with another update after a further meeting with the council, saying next steps are being discussed and calling on the riding community to help form a dedicated dig team.

The club says one of the biggest immediate needs is more people to help shape, repair and build the trails, with no previous dig experience required. Volunteers will need steel toe-cap boots, and the club says a rolling GoFund page is also set to launch soon to help support future trail improvements and projects.

The first focus for the renewed trail work will be the skills area, which the club says it wants to make better for riders looking to progress. That means the restart is not only about clearing and reopening the wider trail network, but also beginning work on one of the key progression areas at Pooley. You can donate to the fundraiser here.

The club has also announced three volunteer sessions to get the trails cleared in time for the Easter holidays. These are planned for Wednesday 18 March, Saturday 21 March and Sunday 22 March, all meeting at 10am. According to the club, these will be the first trail crews to work on the Pooley trails in two years, marking a significant step in getting activity back on the ground.

Riders who want to get involved have been asked to make contact through the club’s WhatsApp page (see below). The latest posts make clear that community support, both in volunteer time and future fundraising, will be central to what happens next at Pooley.
