Tarland Trails Pittenderich adds new short natural red trail, Project Blaeberry

Tarland Trails Pittenderich has added a new short natural red trail called Project Blaeberry, giving riders another way to stay on the red network as they head back down the hill. It is around 240m long with roughly 30m of descent.

The new line sits within the wider Pittenderich trail centre in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, and adds a more natural-feeling option to a venue already known for berms, jumps and technical riding. For more on the wider venue, see our Tarland Trails Pittenderich trail listing.

Tarland Trails describes Project Blaeberry as a fast “rake and ride” trail with roots and rocks, following an old deer track through the blaeberry bushes. In its social post, the trail crew said the new line is aimed at riders who want to keep riding the reds down towards the car park without taking the climb back up to Bermuda, effectively creating a short practical connector within the red trail network.

Tarland’s own map places it in the Pittenderich zone alongside existing red trail options including Bermuda, helping riders piece together different red descents and route choices on the hill.

There is also some wider context here. Tarland Trails Pittenderich officially opened in 2023 following major investment, and has been positioned by DMBinS as part of a broader effort to strengthen Aberdeenshire’s regional mountain biking offer. Against that backdrop, a shorter volunteer-built addition like Project Blaeberry shows the trail centre continuing to evolve after the main launch, with incremental changes that still affect how the place rides day to day.

If you have ridden Project Blaeberry, let us know how it fits into the wider Pittenderich lap and whether this kind of shorter network addition is something you would like to see more of at UK trail centres.
