South Wales to Get New BMX Pump Track in Ferndale

A new surfaced BMX pump track is nearing completion in Ferndale, Rhondda Cynon Taf. Built on a former landslip remediation site, this community-focused facility is part of a wider effort to transform the Rhondda Fach into a more accessible outdoor destination. While an official opening date hasn’t been confirmed, the track is expected to soon.

The track is being built near Station Road in Ferndale, adjacent to phase four of the Rhondda Fach Active Travel Route. The project transforms the site of the 2020 Tylorstown landslide into a recreation space for riders of all ages and abilities, including those on balance bikes, scooters, and BMXs.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council approved the development in December 2024 as part of ongoing work to repurpose former industrial and remediation land. By June 2025, the council confirmed that construction was nearly finished, with the opening expected “shortly”.

The track is designed to complement the adjacent Active Travel Route, offering off-road access for local residents and linking into the broader Ferndale area by foot or bike. It forms part of the Council’s strategy to connect communities through outdoor infrastructure.

Have you got any local insights? Once it opens, we’d love to hear your first impressions.
