Richmond, North Yorkshire — Planning permission for Richmond Bike Park has been approved, clearing the way for a phased, community-built riding facility on the outskirts of town. The free-to-access park is designed for riders of all ages and abilities and addresses a clear local gap, with no comparable facility within a 45-minute drive.

What’s Planned
The project follows a phased approach to ensure sustainable delivery — from earthworks and shaping through to planting, drainage, signage and ongoing maintenance. When complete, the park will provide progressive features for skills development and everyday riding, welcoming beginners, families and experienced riders alike.
Grassroots Model, Inspired by Wetherby
Taking cues from the successful Devil’s Toenail in Wetherby, Richmond Bike Park will be built “by the community, for the community.” Volunteers, local trades, plant and equipment providers, and donors will work together to deliver each phase safely and efficiently.
Why It Matters
- Health & wellbeing: safe outdoor activity close to home
- Progression: a place to learn, practise and build confidence
- Access: free to use, inclusive by design
- Local benefit: community ownership and pride, with minimal travel required
Get Involved
With permission granted, the next step is building. The Richmond Bike Park Squad is inviting people to pledge time, skills or materials to help deliver the early phases.
