Description

Richmond Bike Park is a community bike facility on the outskirts of Richmond Town, North Yorkshire. The park is currently in the early build stage.

Once complete, it will offer a free-to-access, inclusive space for riders of all ages and abilities. With no similar facility within 45 minutes, it meets an important local need for outdoor activities and skill development. Velosolutions has been commissioned for the design and build for a summer 2026 opening.

Inspired by Devil’s Toenail in Wetherby, the project takes a real grassroots approach; the park will be built by the community, for the community. Volunteers, local trades, equipment, materials and donors will come together to deliver each phase, from digging and shaping to planting and signage.

The Trails

Updated plans shared by the project team show a sizeable multi-line bike park layout featuring three descending trails alongside additional skills-focused features. The latest Velosolutions UK design includes:

  • A 290m green downhill trail
  • A 390m green climbing trail
  • A 100m green loop
  • A 345m blue downhill trail
  • A 530m red downhill trail
  • A 65m dual slalom track
  • A 40m jump line and dedicated jump area

The plans suggest a progression-focused setup, with the green trail weaving around the outside of the hill while the blue and red lines take more direct routes down the slope. The upper section includes the dual slalom and jump features clustered around the start area, creating a more compact skills zone at the top of the site.

Richmond Bike Park organisers said the latest design keeps the original community ideas intact while adding “a few extra exciting bits” following rider feedback gathered during the project's development.
