Description

Richmond Bike Park is a planned community bike facility on the outskirts of Richmond Town, North Yorkshire. The park hasn’t been built yet—it’s currently in the planning and preparation stage, with a clear phased approach mapped out. Once complete, it will offer a free-to-access, inclusive space for riders of all ages and abilities. With no similar facility within 45 minutes, it fills an important local need for outdoor activity and skill progression.

Inspired by Devil’s Toenail in Wetherby, the project takes a real grassroots approach—the park will be built by the community, for the community. Volunteers, local trades, equipment, materials and donors will come together to deliver each phase—from digging and shaping to planting and signage.

The Trails

The park will be delivered in five phases, each with a clear focus and designed to ensure progression, accessibility, and sustainability.

Phase 1 – Green Skills Trail Loop (Full Community Build!)
The first goal is to construct a 210m beginner-friendly green loop entirely through community volunteer work. If successful, it will be a powerful demonstration of what a united local effort can achieve.

Phase 2 – Footpath, Car Park & Access (Community Build)
Once the green trail is in place, the next step is to improve access with a footpath and small car park, again using community labour to keep costs low.

Phases 3 & 4 – Red & Blue Trails
These advanced trails will provide more technical riding for those looking to push their skills. More information will follow once the initial phases are complete.

Phase 5 – Planting & Landscaping
The final phase will transform the space into a green, natural environment through tree planting, landscaping, and features that support biodiversity and create a welcoming feel.
