Sherwood Pines – Nottinghamshire. Forestry England is set to begin work on a new Pedal and Play trail at Sherwood Pines, designed in partnership with Bike Track. The project aims to help young riders and beginners build the skills and confidence to progress onto the forest’s established mountain bike trails.

The new area will include a mix of learner-friendly lines, rollers, berms and linked loops, blending riding with play elements. It follows the successful Pedal and Play installations at other Forestry England sites across the country – including Cannock Chase in Staffordshire, Hicks Lodge in Leicestershire, and High Lodge in Thetford Forest, Norfolk – each designed to make off-road cycling more accessible for families and beginners. This latest addition is supported by Defra funding.
Forestry England describes it as an evolution of their existing skills loop – a space that will “super-charge” progression riding within the forest. An outline artist’s plan (above) shows three interconnected loops, with lines tailored for different abilities.
