Woburn Bike Park is set for a complete transformation under the leadership of mountain bike pro Matt Jones, who has announced plans to build what he calls the “ultimate official bike park” on the same ground where he first learned to ride two decades ago. The project coincides with The Bedford Estates resuming direct management of Aspley Heath and Woods, including Woburn Bike Park and Trails, from 1 December 2025.

The Bedford Estates described the management change as “a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to enhancing and preserving this cherished natural space.” Working with Matt Jones, the Estates aim to create “a world-class biking facility that not only delivers an exceptional experience designed to fuel progression of MTB enthusiasts but also respects and protects the natural beauty of Aspley Woods and the needs of the local community.”
The Estates confirmed that the bike park will temporarily close during winter 2025/26 to allow essential forestry work and site preparation for the redevelopment. The bike trails are expected to remain open where possible during this period. From 1 December 2025, bike and horse passes (for both jumps and trails) will continue to be required but will be issued directly by The Bedford Estates.
In his announcement video, Jones outlined his plans to rebuild Woburn into a structured, year-round facility with a clear progression path from beginner to pro. “Woburn just needs structure,” he said. “We’re pretty much going to flatten all of the dirt jumps because none of them are optimal.”
The redesign will bring in machinery to regrade and reshape the site, introducing wide, flowy beginner tabletops, intermediate lines, and larger professional features — all maintained by a permanent on-site team. “Lines for all abilities,” Jones explained, “from flowy tables to mega pro lines for the world’s best to come and sharpen their skills here at Woburn.”
He added that the park would include drainage improvements and a focus on consistent maintenance: “Someone to maintain the jumps so they work all year round, so you don’t drive all the way here and find the pump track underwater.”
Calling the project “the biggest achievement of my career so far,” Jones said his goal is to give back to the next generation of riders: “Without this place, I never would have made it. It was the on-ramp to me becoming a professional athlete. Now I’ve got the chance to give back and build the ultimate bike park for the next generation.”
Construction is expected to follow the forestry work, with the new facility due to open in 2026. Jones plans to document the build through a video series and celebrate completion with an opening jam. The Bedford Estates said further updates will be shared at woburn.co.uk/the-estate/woburn-bike-park-and-trails.
