The old BMX track in Wetherby, West Yorkshire, is being rebuilt. Originally constructed in the mid-1980s, the track is being resurrected. Work is progressing well.

Progress and Next Steps
Wetherby resident Danny Roberts has been leading efforts to get the site back up and running. Working closely with Leeds City Council, track-building charity SingletrAction, and Wetherby Bike Trails, progress is well underway.
Subject to final checks on March 13th/14th, the land will be cleared to create space for the track outline. A huge thanks to Hoskin and Dubery Landscaping and Wetherby Tool Hire, who have contributed time and equipment to this project. Their support has been instrumental in making this possible.
Once the site is cleared and the outline established, stone will be laid and compacted to provide a durable, all-weather surface.
Honouring the Original Track Design
The team is working closely with Morgan Rushton, whose father designed the original track in the mid-1980s and still has the original plans. While bike technology has advanced significantly since then, the new layout will be designed to accommodate both mountain bikes and BMXs—including classic retro models.
Community Involvement
As work progresses, there may be opportunities for the community to help out, much like previous volunteer-led projects such as Devil’s Toenail and Little Toe near Millennium Field. When help is needed, a call for volunteers will go out.
For now, the request remains the same—please do not ride the track until it is fully completed. Early use could compromise the work being done.
Looking Back and Moving Forward
The team is keen to hear from those who originally rode the track, especially if they have any old photos to share. An official opening is planned for later this year.
Updates will continue to be shared, and more information about Wetherby bike trails, including the Red Kite Trail, can be found on the ibikeride listing. Thanks to everyone for their support and interest—this project is well on its way.
