Gorlech Trail at Brechfa Reopens with Diversions

Brechfa Forest in Carmarthenshire, Wales, continues its recovery following damage from Storm Darragh. As of late March 2025, Natural Resources Wales (NRW) has reopened the Gorlech Trail with some diversions in place. While not yet fully restored, this marks a significant step forward in bringing the full network back online for riders.

Current Gorlech Access
The trail is open from the diverted first climb through to the first and second descents, dropping down to the cottages. Riders then face the long climb up to the forest road, followed by the third descent and a cross-country section that runs along the valley — one of the gentler stretches, possibly closer to a blue-grade in difficulty. The final two sections of the Gorlech Trail remain closed but are expected to reopen soon as recovery work continues.

Volunteer Trail Maintenance
Brechfa MTB (CIC) is organising its next trail maintenance day this Sunday, with volunteers meeting at Brygwm car park at 10am. The focus will be on clearing the final Raven and Derwen descents. Club members aged 18 and over are encouraged to attend and lend a hand in the ongoing restoration efforts.

Plan Ahead
Riders are reminded to follow all on-site signage and respect diversions for safety and sustainability. Thanks go to the NRW contractors and Brechfa MTB volunteers who have worked tirelessly to reopen key sections of trail.
