A revamped Tarland Trails, Drummy Woods in Aberdeenshire will officially reopen on Saturday 28 March, with riders invited to turn up and ride from the day rather than for a formal launch event.

The work ahead of the reopening has included rebuilt trail surfaces for smoother rides, re-profiled trail lines aimed at improving flow and progression, and new features intended to support skill development. Rders should expect “more air time on the blue”, with a photographer expected to be at the trails from around 11am on reopening day.
Tarland Trails says the work was made possible by volunteers, grant funding from the TCOYT Trail Accessibility Award, support linked to IMBA Europe, Shimano Bike and Thrive Ballater, plus work from Rik Allsop and additional tweaks, drainage and repairs by the local trail crew.
There was not enough funding to carry out the planned work on the orange line, now regraded as Red Jumps, or on the red tech trail at the same level, although Tarland says further work has still been done on the red tech trail using new material and sight-line clearance.
For riders planning a visit, this means Drummy Woods is set to reopen with refreshed surfaces and revised lines across a trail network already known for short, progression-friendly riding.
The Drummy Woods side of Tarland Trails, is focussed on beginner to intermediate riders with a blue trail, red trail, red jump line and pump track. It is one of the two Tarland Trails bases, with short trails totalling around 3km and named lines including The Red Squirrel, The Spikey Hedgehog, The Slinky Fox and The Puddock Pump Track. You can also find more trail details on the main listing here: Tarland Trails - Drummy Woods on iBikeRide. The other base at Pittenderich for more advanced riders is around a mile away, giving the area a wider mix of riding than Drummy Woods alone.
