Dean Trail Volunteers recently hosted a return visit from NVIDIA as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme. The group spent the day deadheading trails under the guidance of Amanda Copp and Hazel Yarranton-Wheeler. They donated tools in advance and plan a follow-up contribution. It’s a model that works: skilled support for trails, meaningful engagement for employees.

Tarland Trails in Aberdeenshire is another trail crew tapping into CSR. Volunteers from Kent PLC joined a dig day to support the "Project Mushroom" build, contributing time and energy to a new trail project.
This approach isn't isolated. The Take Care of Your Trails campaign, which spans the UK and Europe, encourages organisations to support trail work through hands-on volunteering. These programmes offer trail crews a sustainable way to bring in additional resource and reach new advocates.
With many UK companies now offering CSR or volunteer days as part of their benefits packages, there’s real opportunity for other trail crews to build similar partnerships.
If your employer offers CSR days and you’re a mountain biker, consider using them to support the trails you ride. Whether you join an existing crew or help start a relationship with a local one, it’s a direct and impactful way to give back. You can also find out more about Forest of Dean trails and how volunteers are helping keep them in shape.
