Clitheroe pump track in Lancashire: design shared and Clark and Kent to build

A new pump track in Clitheroe has been approved by Ribble Valley Borough Council. Clitheroe is a market town in Ribble Valley, Lancashire, north of Manchester, and Clark & Kent Contractors Ltd have now been appointed for the build with an initial design shared.

It will be an estimated length of 200 to 220 metres and an approximate footprint of 62m x 28m.

“Designs will be suitable for ALL USERS and we will work with the user group to achieve their desires for the track”.

The proposed site is at Edisford Riverbank, on the old Pitch and Putt field.

In his January 2026 update, local campaigner Jamie also said a new destination play area is planned for the same site.

An online consultation will be held soon to discuss and feed back on the submitted design, with people asked to message the page with their email address and phone number if they want to take part.

The proposal, put forward with support from Clitheroe Town Council and Councillor Michael Gravestone, was discussed at a working group and received strong backing. Councillors referenced the success of the Longridge pump track over the past 12 months and the benefits it has brought in encouraging outdoor activity.

Clitheroe offers a wide range of ball and team sports facilities, alongside indoor options such as gyms, sports halls and the swimming pool. For wheeled activity, riders currently rely on local roads and the concrete skatepark in the castle grounds, or must travel to venues in Longridge, Accrington, Barrowford and Hapton.

The intention behind the proposed pump track is to provide a local, accessible space for balance bikes, BMX, scooters, skateboards and wider wheeled use. A place to build confidence, develop skills, and enjoy a professionally designed low maintenance facility.

The group confirmed that around £100k from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund is available for the Clitheroe pump track proposal, with final design and specification shaped by that budget. They are also encouraging local riders, parents, clubs and community groups to get involved, including feeding into the design process as plans progress.

The project team is encouraging community involvement and support as plans progress, inviting residents to follow the Clitheroe Pump Track Facebook page for updates.

This adds to the pump tracks listed in Lancashire, including Longridge and Burnley. You can explore UK pump tracks already listed on iBikeRide here: View Pump Tracks on iBikeRide.
