Chopwell’s Velosolutions Pump Track has been selected as the sole UK venue for the 2025 Velosolutions UCI Pump Track World Championships Qualifier. The event will take place on Sunday 15 June, forming part of a wider festival weekend in the North East of England.

This international competition brings together riders from multiple cycling disciplines—BMX, MTB, and beyond—to race on a level playing field. Chopwell’s pump track, built for momentum-driven ‘pumping’ rather than pedalling, is now one of just 20 tracks worldwide to host a qualifier in 2025. Other host countries include Sweden, Nepal, Australia, China, Canada, South Africa, and the USA.
The success of Chopwell’s bid was led by Iván Diaz Burlinson and community organisation Ride Chopwell, with support from local council partners. Ride Chopwell works to improve health, wellbeing, and community cohesion through inclusive events at the track for riders on bikes, boards, scooters, and skateboards. This event builds on their wider aim to contribute to the regeneration of the area.
The weekend kicks off on Saturday 14 June with junior, masters, and scooter races. Sunday 15 June will host the elite qualifier. The free event runs from 10am to 4pm each day and features street food, music, and merchandise stalls, with easy access via public transport and nearby parking.
Councillor Angela Douglas, Cabinet Member for Culture, Sport and Tourism, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase our vibrant community and brilliant local facilities on the world stage.”
