Opened in July 2023, Burlish Bike Park is a brilliant bike park venue with over 5,000 riders in its first year. By March, they plan to resurface trails, remove invasive plants, and enhance car park and forest areas. Volunteers are needed to help meet community demand and maintain the park’s sustainability.
You vote for one of three projects per county (Burlish is in Worcestershire btw) and the winning project will receive an extraordinary boost from a team of up to 20-30 Severn Trent volunteers, who will work side-by-side with them for two days, giving each project the hands-on support it needs to thrive. Plus, each winning project will receive up to £2,500 to support the project, ensuring a positive impact across our region.

Trail projects often rely on a combination of funding from various sources, including government grants, local authorities, and charitable organizations, to achieve their goals but funds from local utility companies (and local infrastructure projects, landfill, sewage etc) that have established community benefit funds are an integral part of the mix. These funds are typically set up by companies operating in specific areas to support local projects and initiatives.
Outside of community funds, one of the biggest funds helping MTB historically has been the £15 million Places to Ride programme, which was launched in 2019 by British Cycling, Sport England, and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. It fully funded over 150 cycling facilities across the UK. The initiative supported diverse projects including 49 BMX/pump tracks, 23 mountain bike trails, and 17 learn-to-ride facilities, aiming to address inequalities in cycling participation. The money is now spent (we believe) so local community funds, especially from utilities have more longevity and are worth supporting.
If you are a trail organisation looking for funding support and knowledge:
- UK MTB Trail Alliance - a rich resources on funding routes
- The Trail Pot- a new initiative to establish a National Mountain Biking Development Fund.
