A relaxed women's social ride for those comfortable on blue trails who enjoy a few hill climbs, with the chance to dip into some red trails for a little extra spice. Hosted by SheRides ambassador Ernesta, at a slow to medium pace in a supportive, no-pressure environment.
The day starts with an easy 7 mile blue trail warm-up, then back to the café for lunch and a proper break (bring a packed lunch if you like). At 12pm the group sets off again to the top of the trails: those who fancy a step up can explore higher level trails, with the route chosen to suit the group, and you're always welcome to stick with blue trails. "We won't be rushing to get done, we won't be pushing to tick off features; the aim is to have fun and ride bikes!"
The group won't use the uplift service and will pedal up ('normal' and e-bikes both welcome); you're free to book the uplift yourself, but you might be waiting around a bit.
Meet Ernesta by the benches outside the Pedalabikeaway Café in the main car park of the Forest of Dean Cycle Centre at 9:45am, ready to ride for 10am (what3words: ///wacky.chimp.structure). Beechenhurst and Cannop Ponds are alternative places to park, both a few minutes' ride from the cycle centre.
Facilities: paid parking, toilets, café, bike wash. A helmet is a must: SheRides will not ride with anyone who is not wearing one. Other protective gear is up to you (the ambassadors normally ride with knee/elbow pads and maybe gloves, depending on conditions). You'll need a bike that is trail suitable, safe and in working order. Bikes can be hired from the Pedalabikeaway shop; book well in advance. Bring snacks and plenty of water; there's a lunch stop at the on-site café.
The ride is free. The cycle centre car park is paid; the group pays for the full day so there are no time restraints, and the money goes to maintaining the trails.
Sign up on the ride's Plus1 page (no app needed, Plus1 emails you a code). Contact the ambassadors by posting in the ride's comments on Plus1; if you're running late, there might not be signal at the meet point. Open to women 18+; you ride at your own risk.
