Fodders' Academy is back this half term with a packed programme of MTB coaching for younger riders, run by WyeMTB (British Cycling) at the Forest of Dean Cycle Centre. From developing the fundamentals of flow and cornering through to progressing jumps and drops, each session is about building skills, confidence and better riders.
Jumps and Drops: The Fundamentals: New session. The basic techniques for jumps and drops, building the foundation for the Progressive session.
9:30am to 12:30pm (3 hours). £55 per rider. Ages 10+. Max 6 riders per session.
Fodders' Academy is the next step after Little Fodders Saturday sessions, or for any young rider with solid mountain biking experience. This is not a beginner group: riders must be confident and competent on a bike and able to ride a red-graded MTB trail.
Topics across the academy: cornering (including berms), weight shift techniques, drop-offs and small drops, effective braking, pumping the trail, line choice, MTB fitness and training principles, fuel and hydration, and trail-side repairs.
Kit: helmet and gloves (compulsory); kneepads and elbow pads (recommended). Bring a water bottle or small rucksack with hydration, weather-appropriate clothing, a small pocket-sized snack and a spare inner tube in the correct size.
A parent or guardian must be contactable at all times during the session, and an adult must collect the rider at the end.
Also from WyeMTB: Gravity Youth race-focused coaching for riders aged 14 to 17, covering line choice, carrying speed, technical riding, race craft and purposeful practice. See WyeMTB for upcoming dates.
