Rooty fun

Only had a short visit to FoD but it was fun. Had a lap of the newly(?) extended miners trail and it was quite natural and rooty tech style for a trail centre red. Also had a look at the DH lines and options but not too much time to...

I spent half a week here it was good but not as good as other Alpine places, but maybe it was the prices that just crushed me. Good gondola network and really well signposted XC stuff (that was a little tame) make it well suited to a holiday for the...

Nurburgring - a must for motorsport fans

It was my return to MTBing here. I'd been driving my car on the ring but then it was closed, so we hired MTB's in 2010 and rode the lap. Great way to see the circuit even if you have driven it, you get a great perspective and can drag...

Velika Planina - the BEST trail in the world

My absolutely favourite trail ever is the Dolski Graben footpath. Natural awesome, limestone, woods, loam - this has it all. The mountain has many other trails and there is a almost hour long ridge line you can do!

Worth a visit but really needs some maintenance, especially as its the premier ski resort in winter more investment could really make this place a winner. Maybe they will for 2015 .....

Maribor - Slovenia's main Bike Park

If your in Slovenia biking you have to visit Maribor, made famous by the world cup downhills that have been held there its superb example of a bike park. Well maintained and a strong set of "locals" unofficial tracks also available.

I'd ALWAYS say every mountain biker should try the MegAvalanche its just awesome. Upto 2000 mountain bikers there for the week practicing on the course then racing from Friday till Sunday. I'm not sure I'd go here at any other time, the trails you can ride then are OK...

I'd not been to Wharncliffe since 1993, since then the locals have been building and building. Yes there is a XC marked loop but I didnt do it. Instead I did some of the short steep techy awesome trails - I did have a look at mini-whistler and watch some...

Quick get there and get riding before the sanistisation is done - the classic Jacobs ladder from Edale route is awesome, great old bedrock trails - being slowly covered in gravel and road planings by the council :(

BYC - great base

Great base, I used this earlier in the year and over a bank holiday weekend did Stiniog and 50 miles of XC riding. You need to do a little work with a map, or strava to find some "extra" stuff other than just the 2 trails mentioned.

Mega loop for the MTL!

Its well worth doing if epic slogs are your thing, but its better to use parts of it and then make little loops off it taking in the Pennines. One of the "little loops" can be Lee Quarry, or some of Calderdales finest.

Single track for the descents keeps the fun factor high. The majority of the climbing is on fire road to allow banter with your mates. EDIT Now ridden both loops, had only ridden loop one before.

Fun but flat

I think the fitter you are and the harder you can attack the singletrack the more rewarding it would be. When i went I wasnt fit enough to get the max fun. Compared to my usual rides this is flat, rolling at best.
