Description
West Park Bike Track is a network of BMX and mountain bike lines in West Park, a local nature reserve in Faverdale, Darlington. It was purpose-built in 2007 by experienced BMX and mountain bike riders, and it suits beginners as well as more practised riders.
The Track
- Hard-packed lines wind over a grassed hillside from a start mound, linking into loops of berms and rollers. There is stone-block seating in the middle where you can stop and watch.
- The Friends of West Park describe it as no ordinary dirt track: experienced BMX and mountain bike riders designed it to be easy to get into but still challenging as you improve.
- 4Motion Darlington has run coaching and a club at the track, with bikes and kit to borrow and sessions led by a British Cycling qualified coach.
- The Westpark Cycle Races were first held here in July 2012, for experts and newcomers alike.
Also in the Park
- West Park is a 12 hectare local nature reserve on the site of a former chemical works, with woodland, wildflower meadows, wetlands, a large natural play area, an orienteering course and an orchard.
- Darlington Borough Council lists four bike tracks in the park.
